What if I want and like to be lonely? I don't see the big issue about loneliness as everyone puts this stigma on it like it's a bad thing

Happiness is not the right goal to have in life. The right goal is to live righteously, to love the truth, and seek God. Happiness is a secondary byproduct of this path which you may or may not get. But inner peace is guaranteed.

As long as you have one good friend, yourself, who cares..

Wow, now I'm even more depressed than before...

Fascinating talk.

Main issue is that there are not many "right" people to socialize with given daily hectic lives. To me technology is one of the main issues which isolated human beings even more apart...

i wonder if healthy people have better relationships or the other way around. physical pain or lack of good health can really ruin relationships

I love being alone and I am very happy. Happiness is all about the degree of awareness you have.

Sorry but I disagree with this . One can be super rich and have amazing relationships ..while other one can be a middle class with absolute no one to care about him while he had sacrificed all his life for other people . You can selflessly do everything for other people and they can still be assholes . So all we have at last are our dreams . Sorry but it doesnt work like you said for most of us . It only takes a second to become complete mean and ungrateful .. agree to diagree

Happiness is virtually impossible to empirically measure -- especially relative happiness. Yet this guy talks as though they put a happymeter on people and mathematically identified causation to health. Also, not everyone is lonely or unhappy outside of a committed relationship. I've been single my whole life (60+ years) and I'm VERY satisfied -- I seem to have FAR less stress that most of my married friends. And while you don't have to be rich, basic financial independence is VERY important to happiness and well being. I've seen what financial struggles in later life do to people, and it's terrible. So, while you obviously don't want to toil your life away, don't think that work and financial planning don't matter either.
What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life? If you think it's fame and money, you're not alone – but, according to psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, you're mistaken. As the director of 75-year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unprecedented access to data on true happiness and satisfaction. In this talk, he shares three important lessons learned from the study as well as some practical, old-as-the-hills wisdom on how to build a fulfilling, long life.
