The details will be helpful for many
My first attempt to create a 4k timelapse video based 100% on free and open source software! The shots were taken from the top of the Opera House in Oslo, Norway. By the way it's the first time I notice (from this timelapse) that this floating piece of art in front of the opera house is really "floating" and moving. I thought it was in a fixed location until now :) Accompanying music (I do not own the copyright to the music): He Broke Through the Walls of Heaven - Cosmos A SpaceTime Odyssey The overall procedure to create the time lapse is based on this tutorial (written by me) located in ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2022316 Technical specs: 760 photos taken with a Nikon D300 and a Tokina DX 12-24mm @12mm @ 17fps (finally rendered in a 4k video @ 25fps) 4 seconds interval Fixed aperture: F5.6 Exposure Bias: -1/3 EV Variable shutter from 1/160s to 1/2s ISO 200 Auto Balance Due to the variable shutter speed in order to compensate on the low light conditions after the sunset, there is some flickering in the original photos. I used the custom timelapse-deflicker script with 2 passes (option -p 2) in order to produce the pictures used to compose the final video (you can get it from here: https://github.com/cyberang3l/timelapse-deflicker). Used audacity just to extract (cut) the part of the song that I wanted to use for the video (the last 47 seconds of the song "He Broke Through the Walls of Heaven"). Used kdenlive with a custom 4k profile for the simple editing. I just added a fade from black and fade to black effects on the video plus the music.
