A guided tour of Blindern, the campus of the University of Oslo, Norway. Blindern is the main campus of the University of Oslo (UiO), and it's located at the west side of Oslo. It houses the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Educational Sciences. The campus area is well connected by public transportation. The metro has two stops on campus, Blindern and Forskningsparken (Oslo Science Park). The tram also has two stops at the north of Blindern, and there are bus lines close by. 00:00 Frederikkeplassen (the Frederikke Place) is the main square of Blindern campus. By the square is a building housing the university bookstore, and a medical center for students. Also here is the main facility building of Blindern campus, it's called Frederikke. Frederikke houses a large cantine and several other food venues. There is also a career center, a pub, a gym, a hair dresser, and a grocery shop. 01:39 The main university library is located between Frederikkeplassen and the physics building to the south of Blindern. Apart from 3.6M books, this modern library has a café, a canteen, and lots of study places and reading rooms. 02:00 The physics building is one of oldest and nicest buildings on Blindern. It consists of a tower building with east and west wings. In the lobby of the physics building is a large Foucault pendulum, which demonstrates the rotation of the Earth. As the day passes, the swing direction of the pendulum will change, because the swinging pendulum remains fixed relative the rest of the universe, while the earth rotates. 02:59 Villa Eika is where the student parliament is located. I have noe idea what they do in there. 03:12 Dana Bakeri is the Turkish bakery located at the north of Blindern, underneath Forskningsparken metro stop. This is what kept me alive during my years at Blindern. They have great tasting, inexpensive food. Much better than the university canteens. Chicken and bulgur, Turkish meatballs, döner kebab, and my personal favorite, börek. This place is so good! 03:34 Domus Athletica is a large sporting facilities at the north of Blindern. It has outdoor and indoor fields, an Olympic sized swimming pool, and a very good gym. Access is priced at 169 NOK per month for students, as of 2016. 04:07 The informatics building is where I gained my master's degree. It's a large, modern building, and there is a student Pub/café. 04:26 Blindern Studenthjem (Blindern Student Home) is an on-campus dormitory where meals are included. 05:00 Chateau Neuf is the Norwegian student society. It's located south of Blindern, closer to Majorstuen. The University was planned to be extended in this direction, but that never happened. Therefore, the student society is located slightly off campus. Inside, there are several bars and cafes, and a lecture room which doubles as a cinema. The student radio is also located in Chateau Neuf.
