I met Will Starr after his show in the Empire theatre around 1956. I had the privilege of shaking this Scottish genius by the hand. I was sixteen, tongue tied and speechless. He sold the Jacqueline waltz score to a Glasgow music publisher for a bottle of whisky. In 1959 I also spoke Jimmy Shand at the BBC in Edinburgh. His autograph read. 'Yours Aye, Jimmy Shand' I was brought up in Tranent, the home town of two of his famous band Jim Johnstone and Bobby Colgan. Both excellent musicians too.
