Here's some perspective from an outsider. After being used to watching Devin's high quality and high production cost videos, I notice there is something missing. Devin gets his really awesome shots by going in really close to the shot. Remember his motto "Everything for the shot." Don't be afraid of getting in closer or asking staff to help you if they can, most people are happy to help.
If you don't have the production cost to get awesome shots like Devin with his drones, You can try and be innovative. For example you could have tried to get on one of those rooftops or asked the people who lived on the top floor to film from their window. I know it sounds scary, but you have to try it to get the most awesome shot you can with what you got.
