Made some photos and a short video, and mixed it with information and photos from the official Airport Website http://www.osl.no/osl/micro/T2en/153275 From now till 2017 is a long time and because I have to be there regularly because of departures and/or arrivals, I would like to create every time again a new video of this huge project. *OSL to expand and increase capacity* Due to increased traffic at Oslo Airport the airport must increase its capacity to be able to handle the expected amount of 28 million passengers a year. This will be achieved through expanding the terminal, and building a new pier to allow for more aircrafts. The terminal will also have new departure and arrival areas, and a new baggage handling facility. The development is expected to be completed in 2017. Following the expansion, the terminal will be just as uncomplicated, easy to navigate and architecturally appealing as it is today. The expansion represents a further development in Norwegian building traditions, with extensive use of natural materials and restrained and sober solutions. The terminal will still appear as one building as the new section will be an integrated part of the existing terminal and will have the same characteristic roof and volume. *New arrival and departure areas* The new extension with arrival and departure areas will amount to 52,000 square meters of floor space. The passengers' check-in area will have 34 new check-in counters. The current railway station will be located centrally in the facility, between the new and existing arrival and departure areas so that walking distances for train passengers remain short. The new pier will have new aircraft gates for domestic and international flights. The pier will extend north of the existing arrival and departure areas and will have a floor area of 63,000 square meters. In terms of floor area, the development corresponds to more than two buildings the size of the Oslo opera. Aviation is undergoing significant development and traffic is growing fast. The solution therefore allows for the further expansion of OSL's terminal in the future. *More space for passengers* Passengers will have more space both before and after the security checkpoint. The security checkpoint will be expanded with 12 new stations and will be concentrated in one location, as today. Passengers will have short walking distances to both domestic and international flights. Emphasis has been placed on easy access and universal design. Services will be improved with new food and drink outlets and more and larger shops. There will also be several new centrally located toilets and baby care rooms. *Easier and safer access by car and bus* The development allows for an improved and less complex design of the road system where car and bus passengers will notice a simpler and safer traffic situation. There will be more bus stops close to the terminal. Access to and exit from short-term parking will be altered, and will not be in conjunction with the crowded plaza. This will lead to fewer conflicts between pedestrians and cars, and also reduce the risk of people driving in the wrong direction. Private vehicles dropping off passengers, so-called "Kiss and Fly," may stop in front of the terminal as today. It is assumed that OSL will maintain its high share of public transport (train and bus). *Environmental example* Oslo Airport strongly emphasizes environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions, both for the development project and for the operation of the new buildings. The goal is that the development should be as climate-neutral as possible and an environmental example. It will allow for the increased use of renewable energy. The environmentally sound solutions that we are familiar with at the airport will be further developed. The absolute requirement that groundwater must not be contaminated as a result of activities still applies at the airport.
