I pray to God for these people. God please help them,help them get off it,have normal lives... I'm not even religious,but no one deserves this. No one fucking deserves to spend their life this way... Yep. Their lives are completely centered around finding heroin, to where they can't do anything else. So what if we just gave them heroin, then help them quit if they eventually want to? Then their lives could be centered around anything else. Oh, no, but we can't do that. That would be morally wrong, even if it is a significant advantage to society and the individual. No, no, no. We must uphold our quasi-morality to the detriment of all. Studies and experiments have shown that when heroin is provided to addicts, they can contribute to society. This reduces crime, adds more to the workforce, and reduces disease like HIV or Hep C. But no. We couldn't possibly.

The only reason it ruined his life is because of the super low quality heroin on the street, and the daily grind to find money to get some more. He would have a significantly better life if the heroin was provided to him. He would no longer have to spend all his time stealing or doing god knows what for cash--he could contribute to society.
