I think he's just starting to realize (or he has been realizing for a while now) that the teen idol thing is actually a quite soul draining experience that he may not be fit for. I can only imagine how he feels, but I'd wager that he'd like to be taken seriously in the music biz & have a diverse and respectful audience that applauds him when he performs well and let's him know when he sucks. An audience that doesn't sound like a horde of monkeys that was collectively set on fire would be nice, too. I think the problem here is that he's outgrown his target group (7-17 year old girls). He's this 22 year old guy who wants to compete with other adult musicians, but he's stuck because he's still being promoted (and has been for the majority of his career) as the "teen sensation." This is why Zyan Malik desperately wanted to leave One Direction. He felt that the teen idol role stifled his musicianship and creativity. His current situation sucks and it no doubt frustrates him. However, he should be aware that it's these horny and sexually frustrated girls - those poor innocent lost souls who are sold an image to worship - that buy him the foreign cars he drives & the glass houses in Hidden Hills, California. They don't know any better than to act like the primitive species driven by their primal urges that all of us descent from. Quitting shows and throwing tantrums doesn't solve anything, it only makes him look unprofessional. I'd advise him to take a break for a few years, and then come back with a record that would allow him to re-brand & reinvent himself.
