http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com It was time to fly from Oslo to Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen where the Quark Sea Spirit Arctic Cruise would begin. Some of the Oslo flights leaving for places visited on our Hurtigruten Coastal Cruise in January, 2011 brought back wonderful memories: Bodo, Bergen (where the cruise begins and ends), Tromso, etc. Only Norwegian Air and SAS fly to Longyearbyen, fly full during the summer, and often stop in Tromso on the way Wedged FAR back in the SAS 737-600 plane (think...second to last row), there was hardly any leg room. Svalbard is not part of the Schengen borderless agreement and all passengers had to disembark in Tromso, go through passport control and then reboard the same plane (pain in the *#*). Views over northern Norway and Spitsbergen were spectacular and how about that stuffed polar bear greeting arrivals? We sure hoped that wouldn't be the only polar bear seen in the next 10 days! Welcome to the Arctic Circle...
