This is a most unusual Norwegian Christmas carol. "Deilig er Jorden" means "delicious is the earth". The lyrics have nothing to do with Christmas. The tune is Silesian, not Norwegian, and the lyrics, written by Danish composer B.S. Ingemann, were based on a Catholic prayer used especially by the Jesuits.

I love this song!! thanks
This song "DEILIG ER JORDEN" is performed by REFLEX - a well known and well renomed Norwegian Gospel Choir - live at a national TV studio in 1996 at the TV Norge (a Norwegian TV broadcaster) TV show Wesenstund december 22. of 1996 hosted by the popular Norwegian TV host and actor mr. Rolf Wesenlund. "Deilig er jorden" is not a Christmas carol by origin, but in Norway we use it mainly at Christmas time. The lyrics are more about "Nice is the Earth - Precious is the Heaven of God - Delicious is the praise song of the Angels". But we count it as a Christmas Carol because it is mainly sung at Christmas time. This Norwegian gospel choir REFLEX, a choir at the "Eastern Free evangelical lutheran Church" (Østre Frikirke) in Oslo (the Norwegian capitol) was started in 1977. The choir is well known internationally for their performances in Europe, and it didn't take long time from they started to they was nationally well known. Actually they where the most known Norwegian gospel choir until the start of Oslo Gospel Choir in 1988. They are good,so look them up here at YouTube! Read more at "http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflex_(kor)" and "www.reflex-choir.no". Mr. Wesenlund and his crew made several seasons of these TV talkshows "Wesenstund" with guests at TV Norge at the 1990's, and these shows fast became the most popular programs at TV Norge (at that time the 2. or 3. most popular Norwegian private TV broadcaster). The Word "Stund" means "Moment" / "Time" at English. So the show "Wesenstund" is like "having / sharing a moment with mr. Wesenlund". Mr. Rolf Wesenlund was a well renomed and used actor ever from the 60's, well known as several rare / comic caracters like the wannabe tradesman "Bør Børson jr" (those 2 movies are classics) and the very popular Norwegian caricated TV caracter "Fleksnes" from the Scandinavian TV series with the same name). This video have some technical quality issues because it is taken with my phone camera from a projection at a home made cinema screen (made by taped paper sheets - rare but it works). And this take is from a fragile 18 years old VHS cassette where the tape actually broke just after I did these bad takes. So the technical quality could be better. But the song and the performance and the song is of the highest quality there is... And so is the Message in this song... That we shall sing glory to the King - our God - our Creator - our Savior - our Rescuer - let us sing Glory to Jesus Christ Anyway, enjoy this song! I made 2 song recordings with Reflex from this show, and I will try to also upload the other one to YouTube if my internet connection allows me to do so.
