Tilt down of Christmas tree STORYLINE: Streets in many European cities are glittering with Christmas decorations as people go about their festive shopping, even as people cut back expenses as they try to keep the fires of festive cheer burning in tough economic times. For some, the crisis means no presents for close family or giving useful presents, like clothes or books. For others, decorations and Christmas holiday are out while economy drives are in. In Helsinki, Finland, Christmas shoppers have been enjoying the festive lights, some stopping to admire shop windows decorated with snow puppets. In the Norwegian capital Oslo, people strolled along the decorated city streets. In the German capital Berlin, shoppers crowded the city's Christmas markets and people walked along Unter den Linden, the boulevard leading to the Brandenburg Gate. In the Swiss city of Geneva, some sampled local delicacies in sweet shops. A Swiss study is predicting a 2.4 percent fall in overnight stays across the country this winter, and Switzerland Tourism says the decline will be steeper if the nation's appreciating currency - a result of global market turmoil - continues its upward swing.
