Norwegian King Haakon V built Akershus Castle in 1290 A.D. to protect Oslo from maritime attack, notably Sweden. Never captured in battle, it also served as a Norwegian prison. Without combat, Akershus Fortress was surrendered to occupying Axis forces (1940 - 1945). It serves as a functioning military area and museum today.
Here is some other historical places you can go see, though, if you want to go to Oslo:
Bogstad gård, a very beatiful farm.
Eidsvoll building. Not very far from the capitol, and you can go there by train.
Bærums verk, also not very far from Oslo, and you can go there by buss.
The historical museum downtown.
The viking-museum at Bygdøy.
The folk-museum at bygdøy.
Than theres the ancient ruins of a Church from the middle ages in Maridalen. You can go there by bus.
The Sonja Hennie-museum in Asker. You can go there by bus.
Drøbak city.
