Ovett and Coe were the best ever in my opinion.

Brilliant run from Ovett, really was the supreme racer.

The track looked soaked. Surely that cost a second or two?

This was a race rather than a paced run. Scott was trying to burn off Ovett, not be his pacemaker!

Great run by Ovett. He always seemed to have a bit more support with the pacing in his 1500 world record attempts than Coe did. Here he has Scott pacing him up to 200m to go, whereas Coe's 2 main attempts had him all alone by 700m. Perhaps Andy Norman had some influence over that!

If Scott had been stronger on that last lap Ovett could have run 3.30. Ovett though could have taken off like Cram did in Nice but he always left his kick late.

With just a week to go before the 1980 Olympics Steve Ovett took on all the best milers in the world who were to miss the Games due to the boycott, and duly stuffed the lot! Cynics would complain his wave down the home straight cost him the outright world record but I'm not really sure he gave a damn...this was Ovett saying"I can beat you regardless".Although this was slightly slower than Coe's WR mark from the previous season(3.32.09 to 3.32.03) it was confusingly credited as equalling the WR due to the rounding down to the nearest 10th of a second system then used.Luckily Ovett lowered the time again later in the season to save everyone a quandary!
